Rafael Nadal’s victory at Wimbledon has only served to heighten the sporting frenzy that has gripped Spain over the past week. The 24-year-old world No 1 crushed the challenge of Tomas Berdych to become Wimbledon’s first £1-million title-holder yesterday and match Björn Borg’s 32-year record of straight-sets wins in finals of the French Open and at the All England Club in the same year.

Nadal’s victory, along with the national football team reaching its first World Cup semi-final against Germany on Wednesday and Jorge Lorenzo winning the MotoGP Catalunya Grand Prix, has ensured that Spaniards everywhere are going loco for sport.
