As a giant of British light entertainment was laid to rest, several plumes of flame paid warm tribute to one of the most famous comedy sketches of all in a humble church in south London.

During the funeral of Ronnie Corbett, four candles burned on the altar as a nod to his Four Candles (or Fork Handles) sketch with Ronnie Barker in The Two Ronnies.

Corbett, at 5ft 1in, was the smaller half of the loved comedy duo, yet his funeral at St John the Evangelist Church, in his home town of Shirley, near Croydon, reflected as much the serious man hidden from the stage and TV screens.
