New team, same outcome. Even after a comprehensive summer rebuild, Aberdeen’s dismal record against Motherwell continued. Jim Goodwin had said during the week that the nightmare of last season’s tribulations against the Fir Park side had been consigned to the past, but this was a performance as meek as any against the Steelmen last term.

Derek McInnes was Aberdeen manager the last time they beat Motherwell. They lost three times to the Lanarkshire side last season under Stephen Glass and could manage only a draw in what was Goodwin’s first match as manager in February this year.
