Table Twenty Eight, Glasgow, restaurant review — great food, less great service

Even on a tumbleweed Tuesday afternoon, this Merchant Square spot delivers smart ideas, proper vegan options and knockout cocktails, says Claire Sawers

Doing things on a whim. Meeting a friend for a cocktail. Two big everyday joys. Yet getting together can require months of WhatsApp ping-pong, only for plans to be trashed by a shifted deadline, leaking roof, bout of trench foot etc. So imagine my delight when the stars aligned after a work event and a missed train plus a Covid-related change of schedule serendipitously meant that my friend and I found ourselves unexpectedly free. Our eyes met conspiratorially. How about a day drink? Several full seconds of contemplation later we were headed to Merchant Square for a quick liquid lunch. Or so we thought.
