The Masters: See off Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy can end wait for elusive Green Jacket

The in-form Ulsterman will want nothing more than to complete the set of major triumphs but the relentless reigning champion is more than capable of withstanding the pressure at Augusta

If Rory McIlroy finishes above Jon Rahm and particularly Scottie Scheffler at Augusta National next Sunday there is a very strong chance that he will be the Masters champion. I say this because that trio have pulled away from the rest of their rivals to form their own mini-elite in world golf.

All three have the game to win at the Masters — Scheffler is defending champion — but history shows you also need form coming into Augusta week. As we saw at the WGC Match Play last week, Scheffler and McIlroy have that. Rahm had it at the start of a year but a stomach bug that forced him to withdraw from the Players Championship last month appears to have checked his momentum.
