Times Letters: Labour leavers and the search for the centre

Sir, The Gang of Seven are right to argue that there exists space for something new in British politics but wrong to conclude that this space belongs to an anti-Brexit liberal party. Today, six in ten of us tell pollsters that we no longer feel represented by one of the main parties. But few voters are looking for the kind of British-style Macron movement that is offered by the Gang of Seven. Rather, research shows that there is more space for a party that is economically on the left but culturally on the right — a movement that respects the vote for Brexit, people’s desire for lower immigration and a tougher response on crime but also one that commits itself to greater spending on public
