Two thirds of trains late on worst lines

FEWER than a third of trains on the worst-performing rail routes arrive on time, figures obtained by The Sunday Times reveal.

Infuriated passengers have told how regular delays are blighting their lives, resulting in them missing key business meetings, turning up late for new jobs and failing to return home in time to collect their children from childcare.

Deteriorating punctuality and regular chaos on the creaking network sparked a war of words this weekend, with train company sources saying Network Rail, the public body that controls track and signalling, was accountable for the majority of the delays and was making their passengers “suffer”.
