If the Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis needed any reminder of how Steve Cooper is viewed by the club’s fans and players, he was given a comprehensive answer in the opening ten minutes of Saturday’s game.

A banner was unfurled reading “Leader of the Garibaldi” in support of the Welshman before kick-off, while the opening exchanges, in which the Forest players fought and dominated, were played out against a backdrop of chants backing the man who earned them promotion back to the top flight.

The pressure is on the 43-year-old again, with the ownership concerned about recent results. Defeat on Saturday could have spelt the end and now Forest face a massive game away to Leeds United tomorrow.
