Young people who do not want to get vaccinated must not be “held to ransom” by threats to ban them from pubs and nightclubs, the hospitality sector has warned.

Stephen Montgomery, of the Scottish Hospitality Group, said vaccine passports would be a bitter blow for nightspots and young people who have suffered greatly during the pandemic.

A passport app is already in development for Scotland despite ministers’ claim it would be rolled out only once all other avenues to encourage vaccination among the young were exhausted.

Fewer than a third of people under 40 have received both doses of vaccine, while about 75 per cent have received one dose.
