Franco Smith admitted that the pressure of the occasion had got to Glasgow Warriors as they staggered rather than surged into the first European semi-final in the club’s history with a 31-21 Challenge Cup win over the Lions at Scotstoun.

Glasgow made a flying start, first-quarter tries from Jack Dempsey and Jamie Dobie prompting thoughts that they could replicate last week’s huge victory against Dragons. However, their South African opponents hung tough, and had opportunities to add to the three scores they managed through Sanele Nohamba, Francke Horn and Morné Brandon.
