John Reid, the Celtic chairman, insisted yesterday that Tony Mowbray had the full backing of the Celtic board, despite the club having won just four of their past ten league games, leaving them ten points behind Rangers in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.

Reid made his comments while revealing Celtic’s interim financial figures to December 31, which show a 23 per cent drop in income as well as a plunge in operating profits. The club’s six-month figures did not make for good reading, though Reid maintained that Celtic remained in “a position of strength”.
