Doing things on a whim. Meeting a friend for a cocktail. Two big everyday joys. Yet getting together can require months of WhatsApp ping-pong, only for plans to be trashed by a shifted deadline, leaking roof, bout of trench foot etc. So imagine my delight when the stars aligned after a work event and a missed train plus a Covid-related change of schedule serendipitously meant that my friend and I found ourselves unexpectedly free.
