Alf Young is a freelance writer and visiting professor at the University of Strathclyde, working with the Fraser of Allander Institute and the Centre for Energy Policy. Previously, he worked for The Herald for 22 years in a variety of executive roles, including deputy editor, before retiring in 2009. He has been awarded honorary degrees by four Scottish universities.
