Turkey is an undisputed capital of all-inclusive tourism, and the weak lira has pulled record-breaking numbers of visitors in recent years. Millions of holidaymakers flock here each year to soak up the sun, swim in the pristine waters and enjoy some of Europe’s best slices of nature. There are jaw-dropping bargains to be had, but it’s worth splashing out a little extra to experience one of the new generation of luxury resorts, including concept hotels where the focus is firmly on nature, wellness and relaxation, as well as plenty of places with an adult-only policy. In the southernmost regions, the weather stays warm from March until late October, although the sea will still be cold in the early season. It’s also worth looking at the smaller places with fewer dining options — you’re never far from a great restaurant in Turkey and prices are always reasonable. The Aegean resort of Alacati is a firm favourite with the glamorous young Turkish crowd, thanks to its pretty bougainvillaea-draped town centre, excellent beaches and clubs, and its windsurfing, which is the best to be found in Turkey. If you don’t plan on doing any travelling outside the resort, this is the place for you — there are enough facilities to keep you entertained, and your every whim will be catered for.

If nature and adrenaline rather than luxury are your priority, then the Hillside is one of the best all-inclusives you will find. Its location on the Lycian Way makes it a perfect base for hiking, and there are extensive sports facilities including tennis courts and yoga classes on site. The rooms are basic but comfortable and bright, and with so much to try outside, you won’t want to spend much time in them anyway. The staff can arrange excursions to local historical and cultural sites, or to the islands scattered around the bay.
15. Melas Resort Hotel, Antalya

If you fancy a holiday in the early spring or late autumn, when the sun is still bright but there is a slight chill in the air, the Melas’s heated indoor freshwater pool makes it the perfect choice. It is situated in Side, close to some of Turkey’s most impressive ancient sites, which are far more comfortable to explore in the less crowded and more temperate off-season. If you do come in the height of summer there is still plenty to do, with two outdoor pools and direct access to the beach.

Further afield, the staff can arrange excursions for an extra fee, including yachting, off-roading and hiking. There are also yoga and Pilates sessions in the grounds, and single rooms available, a rarity in all-inclusives.

This adult-only hotel is situated in the middle of Marmaris, making it ideal for groups of friends who want to enjoy nights out as well as the convenience of all-inclusive. The decor is simple but stylish and there is a freshwater pool, as well as a spa offering massage treatments. There are fewer dining choices than at the bigger resorts, but with a wealth of places to eat on your doorstep, it won’t be a problem. This makes a great base for exploring the wider area, one of the most stirring parts of the Turkish coast.
