Turkey is an undisputed capital of all-inclusive tourism, and the weak lira has pulled record-breaking numbers of visitors in recent years. Millions of holidaymakers flock here each year to soak up the sun, swim in the pristine waters and enjoy some of Europe’s best slices of nature. There are jaw-dropping bargains to be had, but it’s worth splashing out a little extra to experience one of the new generation of luxury resorts, including concept hotels where the focus is firmly on nature, wellness and relaxation, as well as plenty of places with an adult-only policy. In the southernmost regions, the weather stays warm from March until late October, although the sea will still be cold in the early season. It’s also worth looking at the smaller places with fewer dining options — you’re never far from a great restaurant in Turkey and prices are always reasonable. Here are the best all-inclusive hotels in Turkey.

£££ | SPA | POOL | Best for water sports

The Aegean resort of Alacati is a firm favourite with the glamorous young Turkish crowd, thanks to its pretty bougainvillaea-draped town centre, excellent beaches and clubs, and its windsurfing, which is the best to be found in Turkey. Most accommodation here is bed and breakfast style, but the Biblos offers genuine international luxury. Perks include your own private lounger on the pristine beach, quirky offerings including ice and experimental rain therapy rooms, and spa treatments delivered in a garden cabana. Staff can guide you to the best places for windsurfing, or put you in touch with schools if you are a beginner.

2. Paloma Foresta, Antalya

££ | SPA | POOL | Best for nature lovers

Gorgeously located between the Taurus mountains and the Mediterranean, and set in the middle of a lush pine forest, this mid-size hotel offers a far more peaceful, back-to-nature vibe than your standard all-inclusive in Turkey. Amid this laid-back environment, there are extensive sports facilities on offer, including tennis courts with professional coaches on hand. The à la carte restaurant serves up seasonal produce and local wine, but if you’re up for more of a rowdy night out, the buzzing centre of Antalya is a short taxi ride away.

3. Caresse, Bodrum

The Buddha Bar at Caresse
The Buddha Bar at Caresse

£££ | SPA | POOL | Best for luxury

Bodrum’s Bitez district is Turkey’s premier luxury beach spot, where you can find the most fashionable celebrities holidaying (Kate Moss is a regular visitor). Some of the hotels are so top-end that they come with private yacht marinas and security guards, but if you’d like to sample the exclusive lifestyle on a (slightly) more modest budget, Caresse ticks the boxes. It’s small and boasts a mix of rooms and villas, scattered with original art pieces and fitted out exquisitely. The Buddha Bar serves up top-notch sushi and cocktails with sea views. If you do happen to have a private yacht, the hotel has its own berths — and if not, it also has rental options.

4. Liberty Lykia, Fethiye

££ | SPA | POOL | Best for wellness

Situated at the start of the 330-mile Lycian Way, the best known hiking trail in Turkey, this hotel makes the perfect base for getting back to nature in one of the most stirring parts of the Turkish coast. There’s plenty to do on site too, with a host of free activities including yoga, Pilates, archery and canoeing included in the package. The vibe is far more intimate than most all-inclusives, with its rooms and villas spread out over a huge, lush site — and its adult-only policy means you’re guaranteed a relaxing break.

Oludeniz is one of the most popular areas with British tourists, where you can paraglide from the Babadag mountain or bathe in the sublime Blue Lagoon.

Oludeniz, better known as the Blue Lagoon, is one of the most popular tourist draws in Turkey, and it’s easy to see why: its still, turquoise waters and white sands make it a picture-perfect destination. You’ll get the best view of this striking geography by paragliding from the top of the nearby Babadag mountain, one of the many activities that staff at this slightly dated but clean and comfortable hotel can arrange for you. It has the perfect mix of great location and value for money, and feels far more intimate than some of the newer, bigger and more sterile resorts.

You’ll find everything you’d expect of a luxury all-inclusive resort at this huge complex — plenty of restaurants serving diverse cuisines, seven swimming pools and an aqua park, a luxurious spa and a wealth of daytime and evening live shows. But its USP is its championship golf course with on-site clubhouse, which guests can use free with a prior reservation. If you don’t plan on doing any travelling outside the resort, this is the place for you — there are enough facilities to keep you entertained, and your every whim will be catered for.

If nature and adrenaline rather than luxury are your priority, then the Hillside is one of the best all-inclusives you will find. Its location on the Lycian Way makes it a perfect base for hiking, and there are extensive sports facilities including tennis courts and yoga classes on site. The rooms are basic but comfortable and bright, and with so much to try outside, you won’t want to spend much time in them anyway. The staff can arrange excursions to local historical and cultural sites, or to the islands scattered around the bay.

15. Melas Resort Hotel, Antalya

£ | SPA | POOL | Best for out-of-season breaks

If you fancy a holiday in the early spring or late autumn, when the sun is still bright but there is a slight chill in the air, the Melas’s heated indoor freshwater pool makes it the perfect choice. It is situated in Side, close to some of Turkey’s most impressive ancient sites, which are far more comfortable to explore in the less crowded and more temperate off-season. If you do come in the height of summer there is still plenty to do, with two outdoor pools and direct access to the beach.

16. Robinson Camyuva, Antalya

££ | SPA | POOL | Best for singles

If you want a holiday packed with activities and plenty of chances to meet new people, this is it. In the daytime, you’ll find rafting, canyoneering and zip-line sessions, and at night you can mingle with other guests at the White Night beach party — make sure you dress in white from head to toe. Further afield, the staff can arrange excursions for an extra fee, including yachting, off-roading and hiking. There are also yoga and Pilates sessions in the grounds, and single rooms available, a rarity in all-inclusives.
