TASVideos game ID
[edit]Originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Creative work
Motivation
[edit]TASVideos (Q70432304) is a pretty major site for sharing tool-assisted speedrun (Q2661314) (aka TAS) content: movies, resources, discussions, etc. Seems pretty sensible to link their game pages, since speedrun.com (Q63935011) (focused on speedruns without tools) has their equivalent property established.
Note: there are equivalent pages with more human-friendly URLs, e.g. for Super Mario Bros. (Q11168), https://tasvideos.org/Games/Smb == https://tasvideos.org/1G, but we can always find the numeric part of the ID by finding "Id" in the Details section of the page.

Conditional support The "G" suffix is short for "game" and is not part of the game ID. The number alone uniquely identifies a game on TASVideos. Dexxor (talk) 10:47, 25 March 2023 (UTC)
Conditional support Same as above. OmegaFallon (talk) 11:35, 25 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Dexxor, OmegaFallon: seems fair, since the page itself also just mentions the numeric part as the "Id" under Details. Ammended proposal to restrict to just the numeric part. Btcprox (talk) 13:14, 25 March 2023 (UTC)
Support Had never heard of that website, good addition! Jean-Fred (talk) 14:07, 25 March 2023 (UTC)
Comment It’s a bit unclear to me whether their data model is at the work-level or the platform-realization level. There are some examples with more than one system indicated (example) ; and conversely I have not found examples of two entries for a single Q7889 item (there’s plenty of same-name entries like “Batman Returns” but arguably they are different games. If that’s the case then qualifying with P400 is probably not necessary, and we can have a single-value constraint. Jean-Fred (talk) 14:07, 25 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Jean-Frédéric: I think they are more at the work-level? I just added examples 5 to 8 where as far as I can tell, Alien 3 (Q2836804) isn't separated into distinct Wikidata items per platform, but TASVideos has multiple distinct entries for 4 different platforms, since they are not identical ports. Ideally that single Wikidata item should instead be split into multiple items to represent the different games, but in the meantime I think the platform qualifiers are still helpful for this. - Yes, I agree with that, and I like that with this new identifier we have one more tell-tale sign of items that should likely be split (speedrun.com being one already): it makes sense after all, speedrunning is a use-case where there’s a clear need to distinguish between different (albeit similar) games. Comment (How about another property for Game Groups? Jean-Fred (talk) 14:07, 25 March 2023 (UTC))
- @Jean-Frédéric: seems reasonable as another property to complement this one. Anyone feel free to draft that proposal too. Btcprox (talk) 15:56, 25 March 2023 (UTC)
