Popular festival Rock the Rec to offer live music, stalls and much more this July

An action-packed day full of music, stalls, activities and plenty of food and drink is promised as Rock the Rec returns for another year.

The popular event, which is now in its third year, will see visitors flock to Clewer Memorial Recreation Ground for a day of entertainment and fun on Saturday, July 6 from noon to 10pm.

After listening to feedback from the public, organisers Clewer & Dedworth Together have decided that the festival will take place on one day instead of two, but the day will be longer.

Visitors will enjoy music from headliners The Rollin’ Stoned who will take to the stage at the event alongside an array of local talent throughout the day.

Some of these include The Country Chicks, Supernova, Colour Theory, Euphoria, Gary Roman, The Royal Harmonics and Reading band, Third Lung.

A market stalls area will feature stalls from local charities and community groups, and visitors will also be treated to fairground rides, an ice cream van, bouncy castle, face painting, food stall and Busy Buttons crafting.

Kevin Cruise will be the event’s compere and with the Euro 2024 quarter finals taking place on the same day, a large screen will be available for people to watch the game.

Other activities including a tombola and a raffle are also planned for the day and organisers are also allowing picnics and well-behaved dogs, based on feedback received.

The community organisation has received £5,000 through the Heathrow Community Trust’s Communities Together programme enabling them to once again make tickets available for families who would not otherwise be able to afford to attend.

Last year tickets and meal vouchers were given out to families nominated by schools, housing associations and other local organisations.

The money will also allow the organisation to put any profits made at the event back into the community, including obtaining security items for the elderly and having an internet café in the park.

In a statement, Alison Carpenter, Amy Tisi and Lee Hibbard, trustees at Clewer & Dedworth Together, said: “We are delighted to have received this money –we don't think people realise how much an event of this nature costs to put on – it’s over £20k.

“So with this money it means we can invite more families that cannot afford such a day out – last year we did this and it was great to see their gratitude when we gave them tickets and meal vouchers for the children.

“We are run by volunteers and we are not for profit and any money we do raise will go back into the community to pay for projects such as Christmas lights in

Dedworth, providing security devices for vulnerable people and running an internet cafe for the digitally disadvantaged.”

They added: “Our hopes for this year's Rock the Rec are that the sun is out and the rain stays away so that everyone can have a family fun day out and that we sell enough tickets to ensure that the event makes more than it costs so we can continue ploughing this money back into the community.”

Tickets cost £10 for adults, £5 for children aged three to 16 and under three’s can attend for free
