GRAVES COUNTY, Ky. — Camp Graves is taking steps toward helping Graves County's Hispanic population.

The local organization is helping those who "fell through the cracks" who may need more intentional help after the Dec. 10, 2021, tornado.

In Mayfield, the organization is working on Camp Sanctuary, a building with four apartments are helping Hispanic families who are tornado survivors.

"We've learned about all kinds of situations where these people were taken advantage of one way or another or just didn't get the right help and so Camp Sanctuary came about because we have a wonderful Hispanic population here in Mayfield," said Micah Seavers, the president of Camp Graves. "They work hard, they're part of our community and we felt like we wanted to do something for them."

Seavers said the need for the Hispanic tornado survivor population is great and they're helping meet that need through translators and being more intentional about reaching out to the Hispanic population.

"We've still got a lot of families that are living multiple families to a house," Seavers said. "You know, they had lost their homes that they had bought and purchased and again, there was kind of a gap there where they fell through the cracks or they just didn't know they could go get help."

Camp Graves is also investing in Camp Rendezvous, a housing unit specifically helping veterans who are tornado survivors.
