BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WTVA) — The University of Texas and University of Oklahoma officially join the Southeastern Conference (SEC) on Monday, July 1.

It’s been a long time coming for the conference. The SEC granted membership to the two universities in 2021.

The SEC now stands at 16 members.

The latest expansions happened in 2012 when Texas A&M and Missouri joined the conference and South Carolina and Arkansas in 1991.

Texas hosts Mississippi State on Sept. 28. Ole Miss hosts Oklahoma on Oct 26 and Oklahoma hosts Alabama on Nov 23.
