Music Shop Murthy Movie Review : A unique premise wrapped in heartfelt storytelling

Critic's Rating: 3.0/5
Story: Murthy (Ajay Ghosh), a man in his early 50s passionate about music, runs a music shop in Vinukonda village. However, he faces pressure from his family to close the shop due to its lack of profitability. After a chance meeting with Anjana (Chandini Chowdary), a progressive young girl, he dreams of becoming a DJ and ventures to Hyderabad to pursue this ambition. Will he fulfil his dreams or return to his village?

Review: Music Shop Murthy, directed by Siva Paladugu, is a Telugu comedy-drama that enchants viewers with its heartfelt narrative and distinctive premise. Ajay Ghosh takes on the titular role, delivering a memorable performance alongside a talented ensemble cast that includes Chandini Chowdary, Aamani, Bhanu Chander, Dayanand Reddy and Amit Sharma. The film delves into Murthy’s personal struggles, the societal judgments he faces, and the unwavering determination that propels him towards his dreams, crafting a story that is both relatable and inspiring.

Ajay Ghosh, who has impressed in earlier films as a character artiste generating humour in comic roles and angst in antagonist roles, takes up the lead role and shines as Murthy, delivering a performance that oscillates between comedy and drama with ease. His portrayal of a middle-aged man chasing a seemingly unattainable dream resonates deeply. Chandini Chowdary, as Anjana in a significant role, offers strong support, providing encouragement and depth to Murthy's journey, reflecting the views of the younger generation. Aamani’s role as Murthy’s wife adds a layer of realism, showcasing the family dynamics and the challenges of pursuing one's passion later in life.

The film's technical aspects are commendable as well. Sreenivas Bejugam’s cinematography captures the essence of both the village and the bustling city of Hyderabad, providing an immersive experience. Pavan's music complements the narrative, enhancing the emotional and comedic moments effectively. The editing by Bonthala Nageswara Reddy ensures a smooth narrative flow, keeping the audience engaged throughout.

While the movie is on point for the most part, the concluding episodes could have been written and executed better. The final few minutes feel like a bit of an afterthought, waning in the light of the high standards set by the rest of the movie.

Music Shop Murthy stands out as a poignant tale of resilience and passion. Its unconventional storyline, combined with stellar performances and strong technical execution, makes it an enjoyable watch.
