Mysuru: Congress leader HA Venkatesh on Saturday defended chief minister Siddaramaiah, stating that the allegations of power abuse regarding the 50:50 site issue involving the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (Muda) are false and baseless.
Venkatesh clarified that Siddaramaiah was not the chief minister when Muda allotted sites to his wife, Parvathi, in Jan 2022.
According to Venkatesh, Parvathi owned three acres and 16 guntas of land, equivalent to approximately 1.5 lakh square feet, in the Kesare survey area. This land was used by Muda for layout development. As compensation, Muda allotted her 38,000 square feet area in the form of sites in developed layout, which Venkatesh asserted is legal and as per provisions.
He emphasized that Siddaramaiah had no connection to the decision as he was not in any office at the time.
The controversy has gained attention primarily because Parvathi is the wife of the current chief minister, which has led to increased scrutiny. “An investigation is being carried out into the issue and till then it is better to be patient,” he urged.
