MYSURU/DHARWAD: Karnataka on Sunday reported two dengue deaths - one of a five-year-old boy in Gadag district and the other of a 35-year-old woman employee of a hospital in Mysuru - as the state govt scrambled to ramp up cleaning efforts at gram panchayat levels across the state.
Lalita worked as a computer operator at Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences & Research in Mysuru.
Hospital medical superintendent Dr KS Sadananda said she was suffering from severe fever for the past one week, and died of multiple-organ failure.
'Boy made to wait at hospital'
District health officer PC Kumaraswamy told TOI the deceased woman had co-morbidities. On Monday, a community health officer from Hunsur tauk, Nagendra, was the first dengue fatality in the district. The boy, identified as Chirayi Hosamani from Shirahatti district, was allegedly made to wait for treatment at GIMS hospital as ICU had no vacancies.
His parents said, "We took him to a private hospital in Dharwad on Friday, but his platelet count was dangerously low to recover."
Gadag DC Govind Reddy said the boy was referred from Shirahatti taluk hospital on July 2, but his parents brought him to GIMS after a two days. "If doctors are found guilty, we will take action," he added.
Mysuru district in-charge minister HC Mahadevappa directed authorities to intensify measures to bring down the dengue cases.
