Online petition demands CBI probe into Muda irregularities

Online petition demands CBI probe into Muda irregularities
Mysuru: Amid blame game between Congress and opposition parties over the alleged irregularities in Mysuru Urban Development Authority (Muda) site allotments, and other corrupt practices in the urban development body, a civic group has launched an online petition seeking independent investigation into the matter. It has also sought early implementation of the TM Vijay Bhaskar report on land encroachments in Mysuru.

Mysore Grahakara Parishat (MGP) launched the petition on Saturday. According to the petition, this Muda 50:50 multi-crore land scam gave a rare opportunity to the people in Mysuru to make history in fighting corruption. “It is shocking that despite 15 letters, there was no action taken against the Muda commissioner. Despite cries to hand over the case to CBI for an independent probe, both the CM and home minister have categorically refused to entertain the demand,” it stated.
According to the petition, the Muda 50: 50 scam is just the tip of the iceberg as was revealed by the TM Vijay Bhaskar report. “This was prepared after meticulous efforts by the former chief secretary almost 20 years ago. This report had exposed the land grabbing (far more than in the latest 50:50 land scam) by several politicians of all parties and the report never saw the light of day,” it stated. “Those honest and daring DCs, when they attempted to implement some of the findings of the report, were either transferred overnight or were made to suffer. It is high time an independent agency like CBI looked into this report and brought the guilty to justice,” the online petition stated.
Bhamy V Shenoy, civic activist and the founder working president of the MGP, said it is sad that even in a city like Mysuru, the public are still silent on such a massive scam. “The biggest challenge in front of us is making the people more reactionary, and respond to current issues. The silence of the people embolden the politicians and officials to carry out such corrupt practices,” he said.
“The current scam is a small one as compared to other scams which are yet to be exposed. A lot of scams in Muda are hidden. The govt must implement the TM Vijay Bhaskar report which has all the details,” he said.
