Water to be released from Kabini dam for 16 days
Mysuru: With the water level almost reaching the maximum level, officials have decided to release water from Kabini dam to fill up tanks and for drinking purposes. According to the decision taken by the irrigation consultative committee, water will be released to fill up tanks for 16 days, starting from July 10.
According to Mahesh K, superintending engineer, water will be released into both left and right canals.
“This water is only to meet the drinking water needs of the people and cattle. The water will be released from July 10 to 25,” he stated in a press release.
On the release of water for kharif crops, he said a decision will be taken by the committee in the coming days.
According to the authorities, the water level at the dam stood at 2,281.5ft on Sunday against its maximum level of 2,284ft. Inflow to the dam is 5,039 cusecs. Currently, 3,250 cusecs of water is being released into the river.
Meanwhile, water level at KRS dam reached 102ft against the maximum level of 124.8ft. The dam is receiving 11,027 cusecs of water. Water will also be released from the dam into Visvesvaraya canal from Monday onwards. Authorities informed that this water is only to fill up tanks and fulfil the drinking water requirements of the district.
