THANE: The Thane civic and district administration are now relying on health workers and college students to assist them in primary level rescue operations during disasters like building collapse, landslides, water logging and flooding among others reported in the city and district, officials informed.
A first ever training session for nearly 150 students and staff from the civic and district health department was conducted at the Thane municipal headquarters by experts from the National Disaster Relief Force, Monday afternoon, Yasin Tadvi, in-charge at the Thane regional disaster management cell said.

It may be noted, the Thane city has a dedicated team of fire officials, regional disaster management cell, Thane disaster relief force deployed to handle emergencies in addition to a NDRF team station here. Officials said these trained batch of students mostly cadets and health workers will be an asset as they can immediately start primary rescue operations before experts arrive.
“The administration is prepared to handle any emergency but we are working towards creating a back-up team to respond to situations especially during emergency time. Through the training, we are imparting primary level rescue protocol to be followed while attending emergencies like building collapse, landslides, water logging and flooding among others. We completed a batch of 150 today and will soon reach out to colleges in the district,” informed Tadvi.
