Sudheer Babu is preparing for the release of his upcoming film, 'Harom Hara', and during its promotion, he shared his thoughts on the impact of OTT platforms on the film industry. He believes that while OTT platforms offer significant opportunities, they pose a challenge to traditional theatrical releases.
According to an interview reported by 123Telugu, Sudheer expressed that OTT platforms currently threaten the industry because they negatively affect the business of theatres.
He pointed out that producers are receiving attractive deals from these digital platforms, prompting them to release movies online shortly after their theatrical debut. Some films are available on OTT within just two to three weeks, which Sudheer feels is too soon.
In his view, the film industry needs to establish better regulations to ensure that both OTT platforms and theatres can coexist. Sudheer suggested that the industry should extend the theatrical window, allowing movies to run in cinemas for a longer period before moving to digital platforms.
Sudheer emphasized that the current trend is short-sighted. He warned that if the industry continues to prioritize immediate profits from OTT deals, it could lead to a future where theatrical releases become rare. He stressed the importance of maintaining a healthy gap between theatrical and OTT releases, proposing a period of 40 to 50 days to balance the interests of both platforms.
The actor's comments highlight the ongoing debate about the role of digital platforms. While OTTs offer convenience and reach a wider audience, they also disrupt the traditional movie-watching experience and affect box office revenues.
'Harom Hara' is a romance action film starring Sudheer Babu and Malvika Sharma in the leading roles. The movie is directed by Gnanasagar Dwaraka and will be released tomorrow June 14th.
