BMW hit-and-run case: Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah, father of main accused Mihir, remanded in 14-day judicial custody; gets bail

NEW DELHI: Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah was on Monday remanded in 14-day judicial custody by Mumbai court in connection with the BMW hit-and-run case that claimed the life of a 45-year-old woman in Worli.
Shah was, however, able to secure bail at a provisional cash bail of Rs 15,000, said his advocate Sudhir Bhardwaj.
Shah's son Mihir is the main accused in the case.
Mihir Shah is still absconding and a lookout circular has been issued for him.
The accident occurred around 5.30 am on Sunday when Kaveri Nakhwa, a resident of Worli Koliwada, was riding a scooter with her husband Pradeep. A speeding BMW car, allegedly driven by Rajesh Shah's 24-year-old son Mihir Shah, crashed into their two-wheeler, dragging Kaveri for several meters.
She was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

After the incident, Mihir Shah fled the scene, leaving behind the car and his driver Rajendra Singh Bidawat. Rajesh Shah and the driver were later arrested by the Worli police for allegedly helping Mihir escape.
Bidawat has been sent to 1-day police custody.
A Look Out Circular (LOC) has been issued against Mihir Shah, who is still absconding. The police have formed six teams to trace the accused.
Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena head Eknath Shinde said that the law is equal for all and the government will not shield anyone in this case. Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray, who represents the Worli constituency, also assured that the police will act swiftly to catch the accused and bring him to justice.
The accused persons have been booked under various sections, including 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The police suspect that Mihir Shah was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
The Worli hit-and-run case has striking similarities with the Porsche hit-and-run incident in Pune earlier this year, where a minor was speeding a luxury car after drinking and killed two young engineers.
