ED moves Supreme Court against HC order granting bail to Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren

NEW DELHI: Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday moved the Supreme Court against the Jharkhand high court's order granting bail to chief minister Hemant Soren in alleged money laundering linked to the land scam case.
The development comes hours after CM Hemant Soren-led government proved his majority, with numbers heavily in favour of the JMM-led coalition.
Hemant Soren took the CM oath for the third time on July 4, days after being released on bail by the high court.
The oath-taking ceremony was supposed to happen on July 7. However, after Soren's meeting with Jharkhand governor CP Radhakrishnan, he suddenly rescheduled it for July 4.
While JMM and Congress did not reveal the reasons behind his hasty move, Raj Bhavan sources said there was no official communication from the CM-elect about the July 7 oath-taking date, which JMM rank and file knew till Thursday morning.
On June 28, Soren walked out of the Birsa Munda Central Jail after he was granted bail by the Jharkhand high court at about 4 pm. Justice Rongon Mukhopadhyay pronounced the order directing Hemant to be released on furnishing bail bonds in the open court.
Soren was apprehended by the ED in January in connection with the case.
The investigation centers on significant amounts of proceeds of crime generated through the forgery of official records, involving 'fake sellers' and purchasers through falsified or counterfeit documents to acquire vast parcels of land valued at crores.
Hemant Soren had tendered his resignation from the CM post before his arrest on January 31.
