Mattu Pongal 2024: Pongal is a colourful and harvest celebration that is very important in Tamil Nadu and is observed throughout South India. The event, which is devoted to the Sun God and commemorates with Uttarayan when the sun enters into the Capricorn zodiac, which means the end of winter season and the start of the harvest season, is held annually in January, during the Tai month of the Tamil solar calendar.
It will start from January 15, 2024 and it will end on January 18, 2024.

Mattu Ponga 2024: Celebration
1. Bhogi Pongal (January 15)
On the first day of Bhogi Pongal, people clean their homes and adorned to represent new beginnings and bonfires are lighted to depict the burning away of negativity. A particular Pongal meal is made with milk, jaggery, and newly harvested rice.
2. Surya Pongal (January 16)
The following day is devoted to Surya, the Sun God, and is marked by prayers at daybreak in thanksgiving for his bounties, along with the preparation of a Pongal sweet dish as an offering.

3. Mattu Pongal (January 17)
The third day of the festival that commemorates cattle, who are revered in Hinduism. Special offerings are given to cows, who are adorned with vibrant beads and bells, in honour of the farmers who toil diligently to ensure a plentiful crop.
4. Kannam Pongal (January 18)
This is the last day of Kannam Pongal. It is a celebration of family and unity during which people visit relatives, exchange gifts, engage in customary games and dances, and look up to the sky in thanksgiving for the natural blessings bestowed upon us.
