Muharram 2024: Muharram is one of the most significant day in Islam. This day commemorates the death of Prophet Muhammed's grandson. According to the Islamic Calendar, the first month is Muharram, which also represents the beginning of New Islamic year. These holy months are known as Month of Allah or Hijri. The Islamic calendar is based on the twelve lunar months, a new month begins on the sighting of a new moon.
This year, Muharram will begin from July 7, 2024.
Muharram 2024: Significance
Muharram holds a great religious significance for Muslims. Hussein Ibn Ali, the grandson of the prophet Muhammad, passed away on this day. For the Muslim Ummah, Muharram is also a season of commemoration. The cherished grandson of the Prophet, Imam Hussain, was mercilessly slain at the Battle of Karbala on 10th Muharram, also known as the day of Ashura, in the 61st year of the Islamic Calendar. He was brutally killed amid the month- when the fighting was forbidden. On the ninth day prior to Ashura, people practice fasts.
This sacred month is also referred in Hadith as the month of Allah. It is the first month of the Islamic calendar, marking the hijrah (emigration) of the Muslims to Medina and the establishment of the first Islamic state in 622 CE.
What to do on Muharram 2024
The Shia Muslim community observes Muharram as a time to remember and grieve the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain. The mourning process begins on the first night of Muharram and lasts for the following two months and eight days. The first ten days of the celebration are given more significance. On the first day of Muharram, the community offers prayers and dresses in black. Black is the colour associated with mourning. Shia Muslims conduct street processions on the tenth day. On the roadways, they stroll barefoot. They express their grief over Hussain by loudly singing.

What Is Ashura?
The tenth day of Muharram is Ashura. On this holy day, people should fast. Ashura Day is a chance to express thanks to Allah. On the day of Ashura, a great number of Muslims participate in processions. They follow rituals related to mourning. Some people go to mosques, pray there, spend time there, grieve over Hussain's passing, and think back on their sacrifice. Many people show their anguish by hitting their chests, slashing their foreheads, and self-flagellating while brandishing sharp objects like knives and swords or chains with connected blades. Muharram is the month of mourning rather than a festival to be observed.
Muharram 2024: Rituals
This is the sacred month of Muharram that has a religious significance in Islam. This is the month of showing mercy. This month very powerful and people who do good deeds during this month get more rewards and gain sins through bad actions.

1. Fasting - you can perform fast on three days 9th, 10th and 11th day. It is believed that fasting can calm your mind and by doing so, you can get blessings.
2. Reading holy book Quran - Those who are fasting or not but they are advised to read holy book so that they can learn a lot from the book. They should learn humanity, charity, kindness from Allah.
3. Charity - By doing charity and giving donations can help you gain more blessings. You must help people who are unprivileged and your helpers, workers, house helps, and the one who are handicapped.
