Sri Lanka Squad 2024: Sri Lanka have named their 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup 2024, starting from June 2-29 in the USA and the West Indies. The Sri Lanka T20 World Cup squad will be led by Wanindu Hasaranga, who gave the IPL a miss to get fit in time for the ICC tournament.

Hasaranga, making a comeback from heel injury, has been playing in the practice matches in Sri Lanka, where he is yet to bowl in the first two matches. The selectors have picked Wellalage not on the basis of his form rather on what he brings to the table. He bowls good left-arm spin and a handy bat down the order, and to top that a gun fielder. Wellalage has had success at the international level, notably his five-wicket haul against India in the 2023 Asia Cup.
Several notable players, including Avishka Fernando, Binura Fernando, and Kusal Perera, didn't make it to the Sri Lanka squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. Avishka's recent performances were modest, Kusal struggled after returning from injury, and Binura was outperformed by Thushara, who showcased impressive bowling skills in the last match, which included a hat-trick.
In the probable batting lineup, expect to see Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Kamindu Mendis, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka and Angelo Mathews leading the charge. For spin options, Maheesh Theekshana and captain Hasaranga are likely picks, with Hasaranga also being flexible to move up the order if needed.
In the fast bowling department, competition is fierce. Dushmantha Chameera is a strong contender, but faces stiff competition from Thushara, Matheesha Pathirana, and Dilshan Madushanka. Sri Lanka find themselves in Group D of the T20 World Cup, alongside Bangladesh, Nepal, Netherlands and South Africa. They kick off their campaign against South Africa on June 3 in New York, followed by matches against Bangladesh, Nepal, and the Netherlands.
