Asian Games 2023 highlights Day 14: India’s medal tally reaches 107 with gold in kabaddi, cricket and badminton

Deepak Punia settled for a silver after losing by technical superiority to his idol Hasan Yazdani at the Asiad. Indian men's and women's teams secured silver while Ruturaj Gaikwad and Co. picked up the gold medal in men's cricket after the final (against Afghanistan) was halted by rain. The men's kabaddi team sealed the Asiad title with a win over Iran in the gold medal match.

Indian duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated Korea's Choi Solgyu-Kim Wonho 21-18 21-16 to clinch a historic gold medal in the badminton doubles event. The Indian contingent completed their 100-medal target when the women's kabaddi team won a gold by outclassing Taiwan. With 28 gold, 38 silver and 41 bronze, India are fourth in the Asian Games standings.

Indian men’s chess team has secured the silver medal at the Asiad. The team of Vidit, Arjun and Harikrishna P registered impressive wins in their respective Round 9 matches against the Philippines. While India have won silver, it's Iran, who are taking home the gold medal in chess. The Indian women's team of Koneru Humpy, Harika Dronavalli, R. Vaishali, Vantika Agrawal and Savitha Shri has also sealed a silver for India.

Deepak Punia takes silver after a defeat at the hands of Iranian Hasan Yazdani in the men's freestyle 86kg event. Yazdani is a two-time Olympic medallist and eight-time World Championship medallist. The multiple world champion wrapped up the contest in his favour in the second round. A win by technical superiority (10-0)!

Punia managed to set up a dream match against the legendary Iranian in the Asian Games 2023. However, the Indian wrestler is trailing 8-0 in the first round. What a start by Iran’s Hassan Yazdanicharati!

So basically, Pawan had to go for a do-or-die raid with over a minute remaining. He went out of bounds, without making any contact with any defenders. In response, Bastami and three defenders touch him to push him out! This creates controversy as it is unclear if Pawan was succesfully tackled or not!

We are into Q4 now in the women's hockey bronze medal match between India and Japan. It is still 1-1.

India get the gold medal in men's cricket, despite the first innings not getting completed. Afghanistan reached 112/5 in 18.2 overs, but rain halted play. Rain didn't stop and the match got called off. India have been awarded gold due to being the higher seed!

India's Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty win historic GOLD in men's badminton doubles after beating Solgyu Choi and Wonho Kim of South Korea in straight games (21-18, 21-16).

Satwik, take a bow! From the back end of the court, he produces a winner. And India once again have a three-point lead. It's India 15-12 Korea in the second game.

Deepika scores! India have the first goal in the first quarter against Japan. That's the early advantage they were looking for and they have got it.

It's wide! And Satwik and Chirag have the lead in the halfway mark. They are leading 11-7. If they maintain the momentum, India will win a historic gold medal but don't count Korea. This the moment which turned the first game, India need to be wary of that.

It is level once again as Iran manage to get a toe-touch on Sunil.

Then it is an empty raid for Pawan, followed an empty one for Iran. It is still level! WHAT A TIGHT AFFAIR!
