Earlier this month, we proudly delivered our 2,000th modernized locomotive, a.k.a., “MOD”. Did you know our North American #modernization business did not even exist less than 10 years ago? The #WomenOfWabtec continue to impress. Susan Peterson Sturm, Senior Director of Business Development and Strategic Partnerships, is the latest in a long line of Wabtec women to be recognized for their contributions to the rail industry. Along with 14 other professionals from companies around the world, Susan was recognized in International Railway Journal’s (IRJ) 2024 Women in Rail. For the past 15 years, Susan has been a pivotal force in critical infrastructure cybersecurity, contributing to standards like ISA 62443.2.3 and supporting sector groups on software bills of materials. Her efforts have driven the scalable adoption of industrial cybersecurity solutions, reshaping perceptions and practices in the field. She also participates in industry groups, including InfraGard, a partnership between the FBI and the private sector to protect critical infrastructure. Exciting things are happening at #WabtecTransit. Our #GreenFriction braking solution is ready to begin commercial fleet operations on the RER A rail line in the greater Paris metropolitan area, in association with Ile-De-France Mobilités (IDFM) and RATPgroup. The innovative brake friction material will improve air quality in the transit authority’s tunnels and underground network by reducing particle emissions from braking.   "Particulate matter emissions from train braking are a worldwide challenge” said Philippe Nogues-Cubelles, Vice President Friction at Wabtec. “Green Friction tackles the source of the fine particle problem. The unique, patented Multi-Axle Roller Rig is a cutting-edge test bench designed to simulate real-world train braking scenarios with unparalleled precision. The #innovative rig is revolutionizing how brake testing is conducted by replicating a variety of conditions related to train wheel adhesion in a lab environment. This approach and process enables the team to reduce development time and costs, while also driving new standards for safety and efficiency in the rail industry.
