The U.S. National Team was eliminated in the Group Stage of the Copa America, and with that, the winds of change are being called for within the USMNT, as it was a ridicule of capital proportions for the so-called 'Golden Generation' and their coach, Gregg Berhalter.
As for the latter, it is very likely that he will not continue his tenure at the helm of the USMNT and will be dismissed as coach of the national team. Among many of the bad decisions made by Berhalter during the game against Uruguay, there is one gesture that has attracted attention.
Berhalter and his gesture to his players
The United States needed to match Bolivia's result to advance, and after the South Americans scored the partial equalizer against the Canaleros, Berhalter announced the '1-1' with his hands to his players from the bench.
Many interpreted this as a lack of confidence and planning on Berhalter's part because he was keeping an eye on the other game, and curiously, shortly after making this gesture, Uruguay scored the goal that sealed the local team's fate and eliminated them from the tournament.
This sign suggested that perhaps Berhalter was happy to play 'for the draw' at that moment, which in the end ended up backfiring on the U.S. coach.
Gregg Berhalter took over as coach of the Stars and Stripes in June 2023, when Club America had already knocked on his door, but the American was already committed to the national team in hopes of making them the best team in CONCACAF ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
However, after this defeat and previous failures, it is unlikely that the American won't be at the helm as the country works towards the World Cup in two years.
