Slough's Adelphi Theatre could be turned into banquet hall

Buzz Bingo on Bath Road closed in August.

The historic Adelphi Theatre in Bath Road – which used to host Buzz Bingo – could be turned into a banquet hall, if Slough council agrees.

If approved as the developers intend, it will run from 10am to 2am, seven days a week.

A premises licence has been put in for the famous Slough building after it was announced in March last year that this branch of Buzz Bingo branch would be closing – among nine others.

This was due to ‘change in customer behaviour’ and increased costs, making it financially unviable.

Use of the building as a bingo hall ceased in August 2023.

Slough’s Adelphi Theatre once played host to The Beatles and Roy Orbison.

Last January, it was announced that this building was to be sold by the council after it agreed a deal which prevents the site from being redeveloped in the next five years.

This new premises licence was decided on June 19. A licence proposal usually asks permission to either serve alcohol, operate late in the evening or have music/live music

But Slough council said cannot accept the licence until the planning application for a change of use is determined.

Made in October last year, the change-of-use application, by KB Brothers Ltd, seeks to convert the current use of the building into a banqueting hall for large events and weddings.

The ground floor will function as a main hall for hire, while he first-floor front room (formerly the ballroom) will be used as a secondary function room, with a new outdoor terrace.

The main entrance will be updated, with the bingo signage removed, and a new canopy that will also function as the terrace.

There are no other changes planned for the outside of the building.

Meanwhile, the car park will be retained as it is, including its eight disabled parking spaces. Cycle stands for 12 bikes will be added.

The banquet hall, if approved, will employ four staff full-time, and 10 staff part-time. Previously, Buzz Bingo hired 22 people.

“The proposal provides an attractive and positive interaction to a landmark building,” claimed Lotus Plan Design Build Ltd, representing KB Brothers.
