Circus tricks and theatrics open to children at Norden Farm this summer

Norden Farm will be running activity weeks across the holidays this summer, to keep children entertained and help them get creative.

Three different courses will be available for kids to choose from, all running in August for varied age ranges of about 7-14 years old.

Jess Thompson, Education Officer at Norden Farm, said: “Involvement in the arts has so many benefits, at Norden Farm we believe the most important of which is well-being.

“When you learn a new skill in a friendly and sociable environment it is great for confidence and helps to make the holidays happy.”

Thompson added that a key part of the activity weeks is the involvement of Young Leaders, 14-16 year olds who assist with workshops and develop skills to run their own.

Norden Farm runs activity programmes most school holidays, to give young people a chance to learn fun skills, make new friends, and develop their confidence doing things they don’t always get to at school or home.

Circus Week will be run by And Circus, who aim to inspire young people by teaching circus activities in an engaging well for all skill levels and abilities.

Young people aged 7 to 13 years old will spend four days from July 30 – August 2 learning to walk on stilts, ride a unicycle, walk a tightrope and perform on a trapeze, taught by experienced circus practitioners.

Art Week, hosted by Art Adventure, is on August 6-9 for 8-11 year olds.

Participants will explore diverse types of artistic expression, including drawing, movement, and play, culminating in an exhibition to show off what they’ve made at the end of the week.

Also on offer is Theatre Week, from Sideways Drama, in which 8 to 14-year-olds will spend four days, from August 13-16, putting together a whole play.

The activity includes writing, directing, and starring in the original theatre piece, to help young people learn, develop new skills and confidence, and let their creativity flourish.

The arts centre will also be hosting daily film screenings after courses have finished, to keep the fun going.

There will also be short creative sessions on offer, including arts and crafts and spoken word workshops, for those who want to get arty without committing a full week.
