RUDRAPUR: The Swachhata Green Leaf Rating System will be launched in Udham Singh Nagar later this month to assess the sanitation and cleanliness of tourism infrastructure, including hotels, resorts, and homestays. It aims to promote safe sanitation practices at tourist destinations.
Under the system, cleanliness ratings will be determined based on five key parameters – overall cleanliness, availability of toilets, greywater management, solid waste management, and waste disposal practices. The assessment will be conducted by a district committee, with 200 marks distributed across three criteria: solid waste management and fecal sludge management (80 marks each), and grey water management (40 marks). Participating establishments must achieve at least 50 percent in each category to qualify for certification. In the initial phase, the system is being implemented in Nainital and Dehradun, with plans for statewide expansion.
Manish Kumar, chief development Officer (CDO) of the district, said, “Institutions scoring 100-130 marks will receive a one-leaf status, those with 130-180 marks will receive a three-leaf status, and establishments scoring between 180-200 marks will achieve the highest five-leaf status. The committee will recommend action against those that fail to meet the standards.”
"The Swachhata Green Leaf Rating System, which is aligned with the Swachh Bharat Mission, is set to transform hospitality standards, offering better facilities for the general public and enabling self-evaluation for hospitality providers", added Kumar.
