Community health officer dies due to dengue in Hunsur
Mysuru: A community health officer from Hosurgate in Hunsur taluk of Mysuru district has died due to dengue. Nagendra, 28, who is the first person to die due to dengue in the district, breathed his last on Monday morning after two days of treatment in the ICU at a private hospital.
According to sources in the health department, Nagendra was admitted to the hospital two days after he developed fever.
He was married 8 months ago. His wife is serving in the same private hospital where he died. He went for self- medication initially and was admitted to hospital when the fever continued, explained sources in the health department.
According to DHO Dr PC Kumaraswamy, currently there are 481 active dengue cases in the district. “We are carrying out a lot of remedial activities including awareness among the public. The dengue positivity rate has fallen from 17% to 11%,” he told TOI.
Sources in the health department pointed out that more cases have been reported from the Mysuru city limits. “Following good rain across the district, water logging was reported in many places which resulted in more cases. This year in most of the urban and rural areas not much monsoon preparation work like cleaning the drainages were carried out. This resulted in a mosquito problem, which is the cause for rise in fever cases,” said an officer who wished to be unnamed.
Meanwhile in the neighbouring Mandya district, 189 dengue cases have been reported. On Thursday, deputy commissioner Kumara held a meeting with the district health department officials over containing the spread of fever. He asked authorities to ensure that mosquito nets are used in all hostels to protect students from fever.
