Minister: Village-level task forces will tackle rain issues
Mysuru: Revenue minister Krishna Byre Gowda on Tuesday stated that 1,763 villages across the state have been identified as prone to rain/ flood during monsoon. With the aim of real-time response to emergency situations, village-level task forces have been set up.
Speaking to reporters after a review meeting with senior officials from eight districts in Mysuru division, Byre Gowda said these village-level task forces will have members drawn from various govt agencies, departments, and villagers to ensure coordinated efforts to bring down rain-related losses.
As many as 1,763 villages have been classified under moderate and severely rain-flood vulnerable villages, 1,003 as moderate, while 760 as severe. In Mysuru district, 35 villages have been classified as moderate, while 30 are considered severe rain-flood vulnerable villages.
The minister said there is no shortage of funds for relief works. DCs and tahsildars have Rs 770 crore with them. NDRF teams have been stationed at Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada, and Belagavi districts. SDRF teams have been stationed at multiple districts, including Mysuru and Bengaluru, he added.
Byre Gowda stated that in Mysuru division, for the 2024 South West monsoon season, the sowing target is 11.16 lakh hectare. Currently, 31% of the target achieved. In horticulture, 35.7% of the target has been achieved.
He said the state govt is working on resolving the shortage of surveyors. “We are introducing GPS-enabled survey equipment for the survey works to ease the burden,” he said.
He also said the state govt’s ambitious RTC-Aadhaar linking drive is getting a good response with over 1.9 crore farmers linking their Aadhaar with RTC (Rights Tenancy and Crops). Satellite images of 10 years will be used while processing bagar hukum applications by MLA-led taluk-level committees, the minister explained.

During the meeting, the minister, and senior officials reviewed the functioning of the revenue department in eight districts of the Mysuru division. Byre Gowda warned the officials against registering sites based on RTCs. He also reviewed the implementation of various social sector schemes, rain preparedness, RTC-Aadhaar linking, and the like. He also directed the officials to ensure that applications of the public are processed as per the timeline fixed under Sakaala.
