In a major relief for the people of Uttar Pradesh, slots will no longer have to be booked for getting a permanent driving license and the application process will be completed in a day, according to a report by HT's sister publication Livehindustan last Saturday.
The hard copy of the license will however be delivered within 8-10 days.
The report said that the above change will be introduced from August. In the past few months, the slot for getting a permanent driving license would take two months in Uttar Pradesh. And at present, slots were also being allotted within eight to ten days in the state.
However, from August, there will be no requirement for booking a slot and people will be able to apply for a permanent driving license a day before the validity of the learner's driving license ends.
The state transport department is soon going to simplify the problems which were earlier faced in getting the license which included daily crowding at the offices of the department for getting both learner and permanent driving license, the above report said.
Earlier, the department had already started conducting tests and other formalities for a learner's license for people at the comfort of their homes and the slots were available soon.
