Meghan Trainor on ‘American Idol’ and why ‘soulmates’ have ‘2 toilets’

We ask the pop queen eight questions before 8 a.m. — and she passes on one.

Meghan Trainor is one of our "Timeless" TODAY favorites, and she certainly made us look as she dazzled a huge crowd on the plaza as part of TODAY’s summer Citi Concert series on June 7.

The energetic mom of two came to entertain in honor of her sixth studio album debut, singing viral hit "Mother," new tune "Whoops" and crowd favorite "Made You Look," among others.

And the pop sensation did it all while dancing around in fabulous white platform boots.

After chatting with the TODAY hosts on the Plaza, Trainor sat down with TODAY.com to answer eight questions before 8 a.m. in our original video series “8 Before 8.”

For this Q&A session, there’s one rule: If an artist chooses to skip a question, they have to take a morning TV-style shot. (No tequila, just ginger, wheatgrass or electrolytes on the menu.)

Keep reading to learn more about Trainor's "timeless" moment with her son, her "soulmate" bathroom philosophy ... and find out which question Trainor took a shot to avoid answering.

Between your brothers, your husband and your boys, who is your least annoying roommate?

Well, sadly (my brother) Ryan just moved out. But ... least annoying? Oh! The boys. The little boys. They’re all boys. My babies ‘cause they’re so cute. They’re the best. Yeah, Daryl (Sabara, my husband) ... he’s a wonderful person to live with. But he’s a slob. And so am I. But he’s more of a slob. Yeah, he’s looking at me with death eyes. He’s like, “Oh, you’re messy.”

You shared you have side-by-side toilets in your bathroom. Why are two toilets greater than one toilet?

Two toilets are greater than one toilet because — thank you so much for asking me — because you can bond more with your other person, you know what I’m saying? With your soulmate. And if it’s really your soulmate, then you can pee together. K? I peed here today and my husband was in that bathroom with me. He’s my best friend. He’s my everything. And I’m codependent. I need him everywhere I go. So I highly recommend getting two toilets if you are as in love as we are. Because what a fun time.

What is something you did on tour seven years ago that you will definitely not be doing this time?

I definitely ate meals after the show, which means midnight; it was too late. There’s a lot of things I did that I’m not going to do this time. It’s just bad for your acid.

I once in a while would have a glass of wine. Never, ever drinking ever again. I’m going to vocal rest more. But I also have children on the tour now, so that might be impossible. Yeah, I just didn’t work out or take care of myself, like I do nowadays. So now I’m training for the Olympics, a.k.a. my tour. And I’m ready.

Who is your favorite child?

Who’s my favorite child? Stop. Stop. Pass. Give me the shot. No such thing.

If you pass, you are going to have to take the shot.

Yeah, yeah. Gimme the shot. Which one, Daryl? The blue? Not the yellow? This is like Gatorade. What is this? Is it Gatorade?

Blue, for ‘Timeless”!

(Trainor downs the blue shot.)

It’s not Gatorade. But delish! That’s something good. It’s lemonade.

Why would you be a great judge for “American Idol”?

Thank you! Why would I be a great judge for “American Idol”? Let me tell you, because I care. Because I put my heart and soul into these things. And I love new artists. I love helping them find their place in this industry. And I know how scary it could be. And I wasn’t brave enough to audition for those shows. So I always remind them, “No matter what, you win because you showed up.” And I would be really nice, but also would help them and I would sing on the show and I would sound great. And I would be best friends with Lionel and Luke. And if they should pick me, choose me, love me. I could do it. I’m available. Please, “American Idol,” pleeeease.

Your new album is "Timeless." Tell me about a moment you wanted to freeze time with your kids.

My 3-year-old Riley loves cars so much, and I really wanted to do something special for him because I'm gone for this trip. And just in life, he loves cars so much. So, we got him a car bed.

Also, it's what I've always wanted as a kid from my bed. You know, like how cool. So I'm reliving my childhood through him. He loves his car bed. He first night we got to sleep in it — well, I didn't sleep in it — but we cuddled with him and I never wanted to leave. And even as I was cuddling him. I was so uncomfortable. It's very uncomfortable cuddling with them sometimes. But I was like, "I don't care. I want to stay here forever. And I want to freeze time."

We have a question from Anitta, who was on the plaza before you.

Hell, yeah! Hi Anitta!

Anitta: Meghan! I'm so sorry! I wish I didn't know it was you. But that's the question I have ready for the next guest: You're going on a trip with somebody that you're just starting a relation. Right? What do you do? Do you pretend you don't take a s---? Do you take a s--- in your bathroom and act normal and be like, "Okay, we all take s---s"? Or, do you just pretend you have a call and go to the hall, go to the lobby to take a s--- in another bathroom that this guy's not going to be in?

She's so foul. I love it!

I once held my poop in for a whole week when I was hanging out with a guy because I couldn't do it. And I even tried to go to the hotel lobby, and my anxiety sucked it back up. So, it was really, yeah, that was really tough. And that's how I knew he wasn't my soulmate. Because with my husband, it's much better. He encourages me. He's like, "You got this!" And that's who you should marry: a cheerleader.

Rapid fire round:

Newborn phase: love it or hate it?

Ehhhhhhhhh it's 50-50. I hate it.

"Spy Kids 1" or "Spy Kids 2"?

"Spy Kids 1."

"Made You Look" or "All About That Bass"?

That's a tough one! "Made You Look."

Clean up time for kids: baby puke or baby poop?

Baby poop.

Tough questions!

Bonus: Next on the plaza, we have Lainey Wilson. What question would you like to ask her?

Lainey, I have so many questions for you. Are you nervous for today? Are you excited? This is gonna be your favorite concert ever. Also, do you ever want babies someday? That’s a weird question. Do you ever want babies someday? I can help you out. Not like that. But I can be there for you. Oh, I love you. Let’s be friends!
