Kalashatmi holds a great religious and spiritual significance in Hindu Religion as this day is purely dedicated to worship lord Kaal Bhairav. On this auspicious day, devotees observe fast from dawn to dusk and offer prayers to Lord Bhairav. Sunday is the day which is dedicated to worship Lord Kaal Bhairav.
Devotees can conquer challenges by worshipping the Lord and they can also get rid of anxieties and evil spirits. Bhairava is regarded as the guardian of time (Kala). Bhairava is considered to be a manifestation of Shiva who watches over the eight directions and shields his followers from negativity and harm of all kinds. To get his blessings for protection, good health, and the dispelling of harmful energy, devotees perform special rituals and prayers.
Kalashtami in June 2024: Puja Rituals
1. Wake up early in the morning and take a bath before starting puja rituals.
2. Clean your home and especially puja room.
3. Take a wooden plank and place an idol of Lord Kaal Bhairav.
4. Offer flowers, light a diya with mustard oil, light incense sticks.
5. Recite Kaal Bhairav Ashtakam and chant Bhairav Mantras.
6. Offer special bhog prasad - home made sweet rott, gram flour halwa, poode and malpua. (anything)
6. Visit temple and light a diya with mustard oil and pray for the well being and good fortune.
7. One should awake at night and take part in devotional music and group chanting.
8. Lord Bhairava is offered black sesame seeds, and mustard oil.
9. In the evening, people can break their fast and have sattvik home made sweets. They can also break their fast with halwa, sweet rott and sweet parantha.
