State appoints 17-member panel for development of Aarey Colony
The Maharashtra government has formed a 17-member committee to oversee the development of Aarey Milk Colony. The move has sparked controversy as the MLA from Jogeshwari, under which the majority of Aarey falls, has not been appointed to the panel. The committee will examine a consultant's report and recommend changes to make Aarey encroachment-free and develop it as a tourism spot without disturbing the ecosystem. The government plans to monetise the land parcels at Aarey Colony and Worli through commercial development.
