Mauricio Sulaiman, president of the World Boxing Council (WBC), has decided to expel American boxer Ryan Garcia from the organization.
"Exercising my authority as president of the WBC, I am hereby expelling Ryan Garcia from any activity with our organization," Sulaiman shared on his social media.
"We reject any form of discrimination. I fear for Ryan's well-being as he has declined multiple attempts for our help with mental health and substance abuse.
Racist Remarks Leading to Expulsion
Ryan Garcia's suspension stems from a series of racist remarks he posted on his X (Twitter) profile, for which he later apologized: "I was trolling, I want all the killings to stop. I love everyone, I'm sorry if I offended you."
Garcia's comments included derogatory statements against the Muslim population, African American citizens, and negative opinions about the George Floyd case.
"I hate n*ggers, I'm anti-black, I'm the KKK. Hey, let's go bring George Floyd back to life and go kill that n*gger again,"Garcia said.
Family Response
Ryan Garcia's parents have publicly addressed the controversial racist remarks made by their son.
"Our son has recently made statements that do not align with his true character or beliefs, nor those of our family," they shared.
"Our family unequivocally does not support any statements he has made regarding race or religion; these do not reflect who Ryan truly is and how he was raised."
This expulsion marks a significant moment in Ryan Garcia's career, as the WBC takes a firm stance against discrimination and addresses concerns about his mental health and substance abuse issues.
