Popeyes is celebrating a new menu addition with a tantalizing freebie deal.
On June 25, Popeyes announced it was introducing Boneless Wings as a permanent menu item for the first time in the brand’s history. Available nationwide starting today at participating U.S. restaurants, the new Boneless Wings come in six signature flavors: Classic, Honey Lemon Pepper, Signature Hot, Honey BBQ, Sweet ‘N Spicy and Roasted Garlic Parmesan.
Popeyes says each of its boneless wings is made from all-white meat chicken breast that is hand-battered, breaded and fried with its classic base. The new boneless option joins the chain’s bone-in chicken wings, which were permanently added to the menu in November 2023.
Here's the flavor breakdown of Popeyes’ Boneless Wings:
- Classic: This flavor comes sauce-free.
- Honey Lemon Pepper: Popeyes describes this as a sweet and tangy sauce with a “tad bit” of spice.
- Signature Hot: This option is tossed in Popeyes’ signature Cajun hot sauce with a smidge of sweetness for those spicy wing lovers.
- Honey BBQ: This sauce is “tangy and sweet, like a good BBQ should be,” according to the chain.
- Sweet ‘N Spicy: This sauce features a sweet and spicy blend of chili, garlic and ginger.
- Roasted Garlic Parmesan: This sauce option combines the flavors of roasted garlic and Parmesan cheese.
To combat those who may be against the idea of a boneless wing, Popeyes tapped someone who has been outspoken in the past about the oxymoronic nature of such a food: actor, comedian, writer and producer Jimmy O. Yang.
The “Crazy Rich Asians” star once wrote an op-ed titled, “Boneless Wings Are a Lie!” in whiche he expresses his distaste for the dish. But Yang has apparently since reconsidered his position.
“OK, you got me. I wasn’t acting at all. I never thought I’d say this, but I’m officially a boneless believer,” said Jimmy O. Yang in a press release. “Popeyes has made a boneless wing so good that I’m eating my words.”
Popeyes is offering a deal to those who want to give the new menu addition a try, hoping to convert the rest of America to the boneless lifestyle. On the Popeyes app or website, the chain is giving away a free 6-piece order of Boneless Wings with any $10 purchase from now through July 14.
Earlier this month, Popeyes entered the fast-food value wars by introducing a lower-cost meal for budget-conscious consumers. Its Big Box promotion gives customers two pieces of signature chicken, the choice of two sides and a buttermilk biscuit for $6.99.
