NEW DELHI: The city finally got rain, uneven in parts, on Wednesday after a couple of days of high humidity and cloudy skies.
The weather department said Safdarjung recorded 9mm rainfall, classified as light. Some areas got an intense, short spell of rain while others remained dry. Between 8.30am and 5.30pm, Ayanagar recorded moderate rainfall at 39.8mm while Palam recorded 14.1mm, Lodhi Road got 7mm rainfall and the Ridge 4.2mm.

Since the arrival of the monsoon on June 28, the city has recorded 246mm rainfall. Weather analysts expect patchy rain over the next few days.
According to IMD, the city may see light rain, thunderstorms and lighting on Thursday, though no warning has been issued on this. The IMD has warned of minor traffic disruptions, an chance of accidents, disruption of electricity and partial damage to vulnerable structures due to strong winds.
“Check for traffic congestion on your route before leaving for your destination. Follow any traffic advisories.... Avoid going to areas that face waterlogging often. Stay away from power lines or electrical wires. Stay indoors, close windows and doors and avoid travel if possible. Take safe shelters, do not shelter under trees. Do not lie on concrete floors and do not lean against concrete walls. Unplug electrical/electronic appliances. Keep away from objects that conduct electricity,” IMD said.

According to IMD, the maximum and minimum temperatures on Thursday are expected to be 34 and 26 degrees Celsius, respectively. A yellow alert has been issued for cloudy skies and light to moderate rain on Friday.“For the next two days there are chances of patchy rain,” Mahesh Palawat, vice-chairman of meteorology and climate change at Skymet, said.
The maximum temperature dipped on Wednesday to 34.1 degrees. The minimum was 29 degrees. Humidity was between 100% and 73%.
