Did you know that just 7% to 8% of the materials sorted by material recycling facilities are plastics? Given this small percentage, MRFs oftentimes don’t invest in complex technology for highly fractionated sorting of these materials. Republic Services’ new Polymer Center, the first of four planned, along with its partnership with Ravago to form Blue Polymers, is addressing this challenge by aggregating plastics from Republic’s regional sorting centers and further sorting and processing them to create high-quality recycled PET and polyolefins.
