Successful pension transfer

I have been using HL for many years and have always had a good service. I like the active web site which allows me to manage my funds well.

I have recently transferred my main pension pot to them. The transfer has been time consuming; taking longer than it should have, due mainly to my old pension provider being slow. HL was proactive in the process and responsive to my requests for updates throughout.

The best decision I've made

I have been using Hargreaves Lansdown for 15 years and I find their products and website very easy to use and their advisors are excellent. What is important to me is that they have an easy to use, simple, wide and powerful savings and investment model. It means that it is easy to navigate, I am in control and I can see the results. HL was recommended to me 15 years ago and I have been recommending them ever since. Joining HL was one of the best decisions I have made.

Good in parts

Dealing with H/L is an easy experience as long as you do it in line with their rules. Once you go "off piste" then the problems start. Many of the rules seem designed for their convenience and not for their clients convenience. An example is that regular savings have to be made by direct debit and can't be made by a Bank Standing Order.
Another example is if you administer an account on behalf of your wife, then try adding money to her account. You are treated by the help desk as if you are a money launderer. I dread calling the help desk.

Easy, friendly, economical.

The low fees per transaction were the initial draw. The trading takes a little (only a little) getting used to, and the helpline picked up almost immediately to help with an enquiry. It's friendly, and not daunting for someone new to acquiring shares.

Good good service.

They are easy to contact & deliver a prompt and informed service. I particularly like that they are accessible by telephone and they publish their contact telephone numbers in an obvious place. This is a firm who seem to value their clients and do not try to hide behind email and online chat.

CRIMINAL BEHAVIOUR BY STOCK BROKER

I placed a order 8th of July 2024 for shares in Marston PLC on there automated system 1% above the market value .
The stock went up 18% they did not fill the order and deleted the request from the record prior to close of trade. (order lasts 90 days).
Criminal behaviour as deletion of data to cover mistake.. , I have been suspicious of slow trades so took a photo of page before Hargreaves Lansdown deleted all records...

Structured and well run company

Structured and well run company with good phone support and excellent web site. Have been with Hargreaves for 10 years, They have managed my families investments for our pension funds and Junior ISA.s with positive results.

Drawdown guidance

Drawing down your pension is not a straightforward process. It can be immensly complicated. I went through the process with Hargreaves Lansdowne. Personally I find reading through reams of regulations extremely tiresome and confusing. So going through the process of drawdown, I asked Hargreaves to explain any stage that I was stuck on as it came up. They could not have been more helpful and understood exactly what my concerns were on each occasion. Explanations they gave were clear and concise and personally guided me through each stage to a successful conclusion. I recommend Hargreaves Lansdown wholeheartedly.

Absolutely disgraceful service

Absolutely disgraceful service. Had to be on the phone for almost 40mins talking to an Asian with poor English after a 3 week wait for a pension drawdown only to be told I have to wait a further 2 weeks (while they get the interest) before they will send me the money. They lost the letter so had to do it again on the phone. Ended up giving whole security code that she said she would not remember it???

Easy to open savings accounts

It’s easy to open savings accounts, getting competitive interest rates with non-high street banks. It is then easy to see your different savings accounts in one place with just the HL log in.

They reply to messages & answer the phone promptly

Good clear portfolio on line & prompt payment of dividends & withdrawals
Only criticism is emails announcing "secure message" but no indication of which account.
With several accounts, some for children, this can be troublesome.
All in all much better than banks

They do not sell tins of beans

although HL provide excellent and prompt service I would describe 'great' as a hyperbole.They do what they say on the tin and they do it professionally,which is as much as I expect and receive.

Can always talk to a knowledgeable…

Can always talk to a knowledgeable person on the phone if assistance is required.If they don’t have the answer will pass you onto the person who has it .

Very easy to use app which enables me…

Very easy to use app which enables me to trade whenever I want with competitive fees. The only downside is that dividends are paid to my account once a month. It might be possible to request they be released from the holding account earlier, I'm not sure as I haven't tried.
Overall the app makes my life easy with live prices so I'm in control of when I buy or sell instead of paying/receiving the daily average

I had a few issues opening the account…

I had a few issues opening the account which was a bit annoying but I spoke to the team 3 times and they more than made up for it. Professional, efficient, and kind. Had a negative experience with a failed delivery today and the juxtaposition of speaking with the HL team vs. the delivery company made their excellent service more apparent.

HL messed up my 25% tax free SIPP…

HL messed up my 25% tax free SIPP withdrawal and it took over 4 weeks to get it straightened out. Now my drawdown account won't let me request a one off lump sum withdrawal from the remaining funds and secure message reps are ignoring the error message I've told them I'm getting. Don't even get me started on the high commissions for trading stocks, and the fact that they messed up giving me a discount when I traded more than 10 times in the previous month. These shysters should not be allowed to be an online brokerage!

Easy to find top rates

Needed a place to deposit funds waiting for investment in a property, tried my bank and found nothing great in terms of rates and accessibility; looked at HL Active Savings and found both a significantly better rate and the access without penalty I need. Note you have to be ready to move quickly as the best deals don’t necessarily hang around, but it is easy to use and much easier to find top rates this way than by hunting around. Recommended.

i have been with Hargreaves Lansdown since the 1980s and have never had a problem with them. i am happy to use the company and now my daughter is now investing as well with hl .
