Good in parts

Dealing with H/L is an easy experience as long as you do it in line with their rules. Once you go "off piste" then the problems start. Many of the rules seem designed for their convenience and not for their clients convenience. An example is that regular savings have to be made by direct debit and can't be made by a Bank Standing Order.
Another example is if you administer an account on behalf of your wife, then try adding money to her account. You are treated by the help desk as if you are a money launderer. I dread calling the help desk.

The best decision I've made

I have been using Hargreaves Lansdown for 15 years and I find their products and website very easy to use and their advisors are excellent. What is important to me is that they have an easy to use, simple, wide and powerful savings and investment model. It means that it is easy to navigate, I am in control and I can see the results. HL was recommended to me 15 years ago and I have been recommending them ever since. Joining HL was one of the best decisions I have made.

Too expensive..

Too expensive... management fees, trading charges... taking too much from their customers to give themselves huge profit margins

Whilst we appreciate that our platform charges aren't the cheapest, we feel they reflect good value for money considering the service we provide.

For example, our dealing charges start at £11.95 and can be as little as £5.95 depending on the number of deals you placed the previous month. We’ve also negotiated reduced annual management charges on a large number of funds at the benefit of our clients.

Great platform, high fees

The platform is very, easy to use. American shares aren’t worthwhile dealing in due to exchange rates on HL. Fees per trade should be halved. I will probably move soon because of the fees

Good good service.

They are easy to contact & deliver a prompt and informed service. I particularly like that they are accessible by telephone and they publish their contact telephone numbers in an obvious place. This is a firm who seem to value their clients and do not try to hide behind email and online chat.

Easy, friendly, economical.

The low fees per transaction were the initial draw. The trading takes a little (only a little) getting used to, and the helpline picked up almost immediately to help with an enquiry. It's friendly, and not daunting for someone new to acquiring shares.

Easy way of investing

HL offer a wide range and type of investments from different financial organisations. This enables me to use several of them within the same account.
The advantage of this is that I personally do not have to communicate individually with each organisation.
The interest rates that are offered are also very competitive. As an individual I am very happy to have an account with Hargreaves Lansdown.

Once I got talking to a human

Once I got talking to a human things went well. However the robotic phone answering service and callback that gave me no time to pick up was not as good as it would have been talking to a live person.

I have only used the App /web site for…

I have only used the App /web site for my dealings but it works well in every way and is easy to navigate /manage. The feed on shares / Information is good and has been a help in helping make decisions. really pleased so far

Structured and well run company

Where's the compensation.

I am waiting (without much hope) for a communication to HL Advantage Fund holders that lost considerable sums due to the collapse of WEIF. The Link compensation payout has been made and HL as fund managers would have received money on investors behalf but have not advised how and when this will be distributed back to them. The date is when the compensation scheme became legally effective.

The response does not address a number of issues bearing in mind that WEIF was suspended in March 2019:
- Lack of communication to affected investors holding HL funds with WEIF content.
- Why the Link compensation has NOT been distributed to HL investors affected by the WEIF collapse at the time the losses were incurred. It seems HL are incorrectly treating WEIF loss compensation as totally unconnected windfall income to re-invested as they see fit.
- Most importantly, there has been absolutely no remorse from HL for their failings during the WEIF collapse.
